Our Story

I was an academic teacher for six years before I left the ministry to pursue my passion as a ballet teacher for adults. After months of teaching and speaking with my dancers, I felt that there was one thing that made all the difference for them – a dance community. The idea for Assemblé Studios was born to build a close-knit and supportive ballet community for adult ballet dancers. Assemblé [ah-SAHN-blay] is a French word which literally translates to "to assemble" or “to gather”. It represents my vision of the harmonious convergence of dancers, movements, and artistic expression.

The traditional view of ballet presents a barrier to many adults that want to begin their journey with ballet.

I'm not flexible enough.

I’m too old to learn ballet.

I don't have an ideal physique to dance.

These are some of the common refrains that I have heard time and time again. At Assemblé Studios, we strive to break these traditional stereotypes and provide a place for any aspiring dancer to take that first step. People come to the studio for many reasons – some for healing, some for fitness, or some to pick up a childhood dream they had stowed away. Within these walls, I have been blessed to be part of their journeys of self discovery and growth.

The rest is still unwritten. Come and be part of the journey with us.

Sending love,
Raquel
