Ballet classes are, ironically, my form of both self-care and challenge. My favourite classes are Variation and Pointe. I love immersing myself in variation class for its blend of artistry and technique, while pointe work demands greater strength and even a bit of bravery to push myself through the drills. I began ballet about three years ago as an adult learner, and the journey has been immensely gratifying. Finding the right school has been key in supporting my progression. I've been with Assemblé Studios since March 2024. I initially learned ballet between the ages of 4 and 8 but only resumed my ballet journey a year ago. When I found out that Assemblé Studios offered a pointe programme for absolute beginners, I was thrilled — dancing en pointe had always felt like an unattainable dream! Now, with Raquel's patient guidance, I’m proud to have progressed to intermediate pointe. I look forward to each week’s classes, not just for the dancing but also for the wonderful friends I’ve made. I’m so thankful to have this space to grow and dream bigger.

I had a couple of things on my wishlist when I was finding a ballet studio. It has to be in an easily accessible location with a convenient class schedule, and more importantly, it needs to have a supportive environment. Assemblé Studios met all my needs. Its welcoming atmosphere always makes me feel comfortable to learn and dance with my classmates. I’m glad to say that it has played a significant role in enabling me to pick up ballet as a hobby.

Back in 2022, due to an injury, I had my leg in a cast. Recovery was difficult, and my body was getting lazy. Serendipitously, an ad for Gym Ballet from Assemblé Studios appeared on my feed. I had no idea what it was at first, but the more I read, the more I felt that it was just what I needed. I had my first class on November 1st, 2023. Even from the first class, I could feel myself healing and becoming stronger. I couldn't do a lot to begin with, but Raquel was patient, pushing when I needed it. After about six months, I felt that I could do more, so I started attending two classes a week. I feel I have improved so much in body strength and regained much of my mobility. Also, there is a kind of body confidence I never thought I could achieve. I find myself walking taller and stepping lightly. I love these classes and look forward to every session.

The studio's regimen included frequent balancing and stretching exercises. These exercises effectively targeted various core muscles in each lesson, resulting in the gradual rebuilding of my strength and posture. As a result, after a year of dedicated effort, my balance and flexibility significantly improved.

Ballet allows me to continue with my cardio workout and at the same time work on toning those muscles. There’s also something about ballet music that’s so relaxing and therapeutic. Dancing to it makes me forget about my worries or problems.
